Caring for Your Moss Garden

Caring for your miniature moss garden is easy and fun!

Moss gardens need frequent misting or watering. Tap water, well water, rainwater or distilled water are all fine to use.

If your garden is enclosed (has a lid or wrap covering), it will need less watering/misting than an open garden.

Check the water level in your garden weekly.  Most of our gardens have potting soil and/or pea gravel as the lowest layer. This layer should remain wet or underwater to help maintain moisture in the garden.

Use a mister or the gentle spray feature on your kitchen sink to keep your garden hydrated and happy. Misting and caring for your garden is a calming and rewarding experience.

If your garden contains tree bark, you may uncover the container to avoid mold.  If you notice algae growing in your aquatic garden, simply remove with a Q-Tip.

You can get creative and add or change the moss and plants in your garden, or add special shells, stones or small figures.

Fun tip: Moss gardens are a great first plant for young children, who can care for the garden on their own.
